Whats new...?
Airframe
- Design of Inner Leading Edge with new lighter, stronger, hinge.
- Designed so that the leading edge inners can be telescoped in to allow for less than 12’ packed glider if necessary for aircraft hold freight.
- New concept washout batten. Impossible to twist wires around rod. Saves batten and speeds rigging.
- New upright fittings. Makes rigging on the keel a doddle. The glider does not flop from one side when on the control frame.
- Certified with very high payload so that the wing can be used with a light trike or by large guys with a conventional power unit.
- Rio 2 inherits developments from the Cheetah Evo competition glider.
Clip Batten ends.
- Avian were the first to develop clip batten ends. The are now copied by the whole industry but Avian’s are still the best.
VB option
- Design of Cross Tube to Allow VB usage.
- Very smooth running VB.
Keel Design.
- Removable keel ‘stinger’ to allow use with power unit.
Rear Wires.
- These are wider at the top to allow more space for power units. Also good prop clearance at the rear.
Sail.
- Laser cut for extra accuracy. Made with the same quality batten clip ends as the Cheetah. The best in the business. Good sail life, robust, easy to use fittings.
- New Logo design in the undersurface.
Flat Rigging.
- The glider is easy to rig flat on UK hills.
Washout Batten.
- The number 6 batten has been replaced by a ‘Washout Batten’.
- The idea is that this folds down onto the leading edge when packed.
- It could alternatively be folded inboard though that does bring its own design considerations.
- The under-surface zips along the under-surface line to allow this.
- The design problem here is that the washout batten needs to fold away such that it does not stick out too far beyond the end of the leading edge (A little is probably acceptable since the packed sail will stick beyond the end of the aluminium leading edge.)
- It also has to fold through the zip in the under-surface.
